With the launch of our After Dark Resident Applications last month we only thought it would only be right that we caught up with EF EM to launch our brand new NUCO Sounds Mix Series.

Josh put together a dreamy après inspired set to send us wishing to be back on alpine terraces while he told us about what he’s been up to since lighting up our dance floors in Edinburgh, Val d’Isere and beyond last season.

This time last year you must have signed up to become an After Dark Resident. What inspired you to get involved?

I’d been on a trip out to Tignes and to BUDS with NUCO and had a lot of fun at the events, I had been mixing for a little while and was starting to play proper events in my uni city and so when the opportunity arose I knew it was going to be a lot of fun.

Since joining us, what’s your NUCO highlight? Any particular event or moment that sticks out as a favourite?

That’s a tough one, but I recon going B2b with my friend and real life disco diva D’vey on the hillside at BUDS is up there. It’s close between that, supporting Mele in a packed Doudoune club and throwing a house party in the basement of the Folie Douce surrounded by display cabinets of cheese and fine wine.

Tell us about the mix you’ve put together for us. What inspired it?

For this mix I really just wanted to put together my perfect après set, it takes no time getting going but slowly mellows out as the sun would be setting, super nostalgic with lots of edits and samples of old classics.

I tried to distil my favourite disco tracks and sounds, then refined my list to be more après focussed, hunting for edits and remixes that would let me present my favourite disco hooks and make the most of an après sound system or setting. The result was a super fun mix of classic disco, nu disco and disco house.

Are there any other projects you’re working on? Where else can we hear you?

My gig schedule is obviously pretty quiet right now but recently I’ve been focusing on my online radio show, you can catch that live Tuesdays 8–10pm on cratedigs.com or catch up on old episodes here.

Other than that, I’m about to start a season with 360 Bar Val Thorens where I’ll be running the stage, sound system and DJing from time to time so be sure to stop by if you’re in resort.

Have you found anything fun to fill the void left by clubs and festivals being off the cards this summer?

We threw a couple very small outdoor events for friends back in summer before restrictions tightened up but recently we have been enjoying getting together for live streams. We set up a TV and sound system and have a boogie, it’s about as close as you can get to club life at the moment aha. The best was probably Bicep a couple months back, a live audio and visual set with tonnes of stuff of their new album.

When things get slightly back to normal, where can you not wait to have a dance?

I have my eyes set on the capital so I guess Corsica Studios, The Pickle Factory or The Cause. Other than that Houghton festival, Lost Village or Sub Club up in Glasgow.

Finally, what’s your favourite tune at the moment?

Another tricky one but I’ll go with The Groove Line by Heatwave. Seriously feel good and never fails to make my toe tap, funky disco FUN from the good ol’ days.

If you’re on the hunt for more tunes check this disco, funk and house mix from a while back and the rest of our collective’s mix series: https://soundcloud.com/roundhousecol/rhc-001-savio-b2b-josh .
